Carolyn began studying painting at 11 years of age by taking art lessons from Marjorie Chamberlain through high school graduation. Miss Chamberlain was a trained professional artist having studied at the University of Chicago. She was responsible for the widely acclaimed "Sidewalk Art Show" in Magnolia, which has become the Magnolia Blossom Festival today. This art festival was unique in its day--Life Magazine featured it in an issue in the 50's. Margie considered Carolyn was her star student. Love of painting has continued to enhance Carolyn's life throughout adulthood.
