ArtTRUST - Your use of color is most exceptional, where did you get your boldness? Linda - My mother was a master gardener, so I grew up surrounded by rich purples, bright reds, yellows, and oranges and all the vivid color of nature.
ArtTRUST - When did you know you wanted to be an artist? Linda - In graduate school, I quickly "drew" an answer to complete an exam on time and received an Honors grade. I realized then, the potential to communicate with pictures and made it my life's work.
ArtTRUST - Who is your favorite painter, a mentor, perhaps? Linda - Matisse is my artistic hero. I have been inspired by his images since the first one I saw. His use of color, composition, and sense of patterning evoke a happy message.
ArtTRUST - Where do you get your creative ideas? Linda - People, laughter, flowers, and music (especially Latin music) all have a huge influence on my work.
ArtTRUST - How do you decide where to start on a painting? Linda - Occasionally the images are formed in my mind before I ever touch the canvas. Other times, a painting will begin with a scribble and go through a development process to the finish.
ArtTRUST - Do you think posters are a good way to spread "happy" art? Linda - Multiples (such as posters and greeting cards) are just one avenue for artists to show their work.
ArtTRUST - Do you get best marketing results from shows or mailing of photos? Linda - Direct mailing of photo packages. It takes time but you never know when your work might be exactly what the publisher or gallery is looking for.
ArtTRUST - Do you feel your training in classical music colors your creativity? Linda - Music and art are "close companions" in my life. They are also closely intertwined in my work.
ArtTRUST - Since your art is an effective means of communication for you, what is your predominant message? Linda - Painting is a joyful experience for me.I hope it would be uplifting in some positive way for others. If I can get a smile from a viewer then my work is complete.
ArtTRUST - Have you any realistic work? Linda - I worked in oil portraits for a while but changed to acrylics because its quick drying and allows for faster producing.
ArtTRUST - Do you have any advice for other artists? Linda - Yes, create from your heart, then market, market, market. Send out hundreds of photo packages and ignore the "no's," it only takes one yes from a Gallery, Publisher, or Designer to give your career a boost . . . Persevere ! ! !
