Artist Web Pages are Special !
Many web page design "experts" think artists pages should be the latest examples of fancy, hi-tech, gadget-loaded, enhanced chances to show off their computer skills. Not true . . . Artist web pages should do one thing well . . . show off your art. Your pages should display as many of your photos as you can without slowing the page-loading excessively. You do not want www to stand for "world wide wait" on your pages. Photos are large files . . . Your art photos are large files, even when compacted down to minimums. Your pages should not be burdened with other large graphic files or the latest "gizmo" to dazzle the "techy" crowd. We visit your page to see art . . . Let us see your art . . . if they want to then read your bio, wonderful, but don't make them read through it on your opening page. Let your art do the talking for you with great photographs of your work. Don't hide other information . . . Give visitors as much information as possible about your work. Label the photos with size and price information, disclose your art medium and provide any other data unique to your work. Make it easy to contact you . . . Can you imagine having a retail store with an unlisted telephone number. If you have art for sale, you are in business and your contact information is critical to transactions. Place your email link on every page and check your mailbox at least every other day. Don't make it difficult for visitors to ask questions or get information. You may only have one chance to interact with them . . . don't blow it ! Visit some good examples . . .

MARKETING YOUR ART ! Some of the marketing methods are obvious and some are not. Joining one or two art organizations may not seem like marketing, but it opens doors and opportunities for people to view your art.
ART ORGANIZATIONS Most art groups have at least one annual exhibition in a prominent location with a reception and resulting publicity. You also find that while it is difficult to arrange solo exhibits in most locations, many will be receptive to hosting groups and organizations. Become an officer in your organization. Many news releases mention names of key officers and exhibit handouts will list you.
EXHIBITIONS Always show the maximum number your group allows in every exhibit and be sure to attend the opening receptions. Have plenty of business cards on hand and pass them out freely. The cards should list all contact information including email and website addresses. Print special bio handouts listing your awards, recognitions, and quotes from news articles for distribution to interested guests.
ADVERTISING A website is a great advertising vehicle for your art. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, just a neat presentation of some quality photographs of your work. You can have it hosted free at several of the major portals but the advertising pop-ups scream, "non-professional." You may also choose to upload your photos into some of the many art database sites around the internet. It won't get you much traffic, but every little bit helps. Form a mailing list for both postal mailings and email notifications and use the list often for every announcement.
